A Brief History Of Chess

Chess has a long and interesting history over its 1500+ year lifespan. The modern game we know and love today did not exist until the 16th century. From its original inception to the way it evolved traveling through various countries and cultures, chess is truly the game of the world. Chess was born out of the 7th century Indian board game known as Chaturanga. After it was introduced to Persia, it spread throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia, each place leaving its mark on the game. Eventually the game landed in Europe, where it was developed extensively and the modern rules of chess we use today were established. By the end of the 19th century, chess gained its universal acceptance, and no more major changes were added to the game. Today, chess is played all across the globe, and is enjoyed by people of all colors and creeds, considered by many to be the premier strategy game.
